Presentation
The PLURIS conference series is a biennial event for Integrated and Sustainable Urban, Regional and Spatial Planning, initiated in 2005 through a partnership between Portuguese and Brazilian researchers.
Held alternately in Brazil and Portugal, PLURIS fosters a highly multidisciplinary environment, integrating presentations on the major themes that structure regional and urban systems, encompassing all their sub-systems such as planning, management, the natural and built environment, mobility, and energy.
Returning to Portugal, the 10th edition of PLURIS will be held in Guimarães from October 16 to 18, 2024, focusing on the central theme of “Cities and Territories in Transition.” Urban spaces are a natural stage for the so-called twin transitions: digital and climatic. However, this transformation should not jeopardize the core mission of cities as a concentration of human, social, intellectual, natural, and democratic capital. The hope is that participants will share their knowledge, experience, and concrete cases regarding the concepts, levers, and pace of this transition.
The city of Guimarães itself is a remarkable case of reinvention. Founded nearly 900 years ago as the cradle of Portugal, it is today a European icon of urban preservation, with its historic center classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2012, it was the European Capital of Culture and is currently one of the 100 cities selected by the European Commission for the “Mission Cities” initiative, aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.
For this 10th edition, PLURIS is partnering with Fundação Mestre Casais, which, in addition to being a strategic partner, will organize the opening plenary conference of the congress.
The Organizing Committee invites all researchers, academics, students, and professionals to join us in Guimarães from October 16 to 18, 2024, to participate in PLURIS’24. We kindly ask you to disseminate this invitation.
